rain

There is something about rain that I love, especially heavy rain in my hometown, Purworejo. I love watching it. I love the uncountable long strips that form like a curtain, or slanting strip curtain when there is wind. I love the smell of it, the fresh soil smell. I love the sound of pouring rain that falls on our fishpond. I love the sound of pouring rain though the tree and falling through its leaves. It makes a melody so pure that nature can provide. And I also love the surroundings after the rain, so fresh, so clean and so relaxing. As if the earth is taking a shower, so the color becomes so vivid and usually the sky becomes so clear.
I think I love watching rain since I was little. I usually sit in front of my parent’s shop, close enough to the rain without being caught by the rain. When the tip of raindrops touched the asphalt they formed a thousand parades of tiny ducklings. *It really depended on my imagination* And I could sit to see this for hours …
My parents barely allowed me to play with the rain, they said rain would make me sick, but as my parents saw the joy in my eyes, eager to play with the rain, their heart melted. They allowed me to play under some conditions, only if I didn’t play too long …, only if I took a bath, dried myself well, and drank hot beverages or hot soup afterwards … And as it turned out this became one of my best preserved childhood memories ever.
That is what I miss so much being in Holland, heavy rain. The rain here is too weak, just like unpressured shower and sometime it feels like silky smooth rain that couldn’t be felt. Mostly I don’t even need an umbrella. I don’t like using an umbrella anyway, I wear my hoodie. The wind makes the situation worse, but worst of all the sky mostly won’t turn to blue after the rain. But, there’s always something replaceable to compensate this, the snow. It’s a different sensation to see the snow falling, and I love to see it too. The lightweight snow flying and flying around, and it also can go upward because of the turning wind.
Maybe I like nature patterns, or maybe I like every pattern since I love even an artificial pattern. Do you remember the old days of Windows harddisk defragmentation where the interactive small blue rectangle moved and organized in the harddisk? I can watch it for hours, while other people just leave it until it is done.
Anyway back to the rain topic, I still remember when my father told me about a song called ‘Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head’, and he was curious how somebody could write a whole song just because raindrops were falling on his head. Right now, I don’t even realize that I write a whole page only because of rain that I imagine. If only I can tell him this, since what he needs is an assignment for an English course and a bit of imagination ;)
PS. My English teacher asked me to write “something” as a writing assignment. It shouldn’t be more than one page. Since I was going to write a post about rain, I just write the post using English ;) *kill two birds with one stone*
Kadang kita bisa ngehayatin satu lagu karena ngepas banget liriknya dari awal sampe akhir. Kemaren siang Steve kirim link lagunya Anne Murray dan liriknya, ini kalo menurut om Benny selera tua ;). Steve barusan menemukan funnya
